Maduro reaches the U.S. following a military action in Venezuela; Trump states the U.S. will “manage” the country temporarily

Key information regarding the U.S. military strike on Venezuela

Ex-Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his spouse arrived in New York on Saturday shortly after a tense U.S. military mission in Caracas that resulted in their arrest. They are currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn and will confront federal charges concerning drug trafficking and collaboration with gangs classified as terrorist organizations, a claim Maduro refutes.

President Trump stated in a press conference that the U.S. would “manage” Venezuela temporarily during the transition and “restore the oil flow.”

The Supreme Court of Venezuela instructed Vice President Delcy Rodriguez to take on the responsibilities and authority of the acting president.

Officials informed CBS News that the operation to apprehend Maduro was executed by the U.S. Army’s Delta Force, an elite special operations unit.

The mission came after months of U.S. military reinforcement in the area, with the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier and various other vessels stationed in the Caribbean, alongside a series of lethal attacks on over 30 boats that the administration claims were transporting drugs.

Marco Rubio states that “the president always keeps options” regarding Venezuela.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Mr. Trump consistently has choices regarding the future in Venezuela. When asked to confirm that there is no intention for U.S. occupation of Venezuela, Rubio stated, “the president always has the option regarding anything and all these issues.”

“Rubio stated on ‘Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan’ that he definitely possesses the skill and the constitutional authority to respond to pressing and immediate dangers to the nation.”

Elaborating on whether Mr. Trump could deploy troops in Venezuela, Rubio stated “he doesn’t believe he will officially, you know, eliminate options that are open for the United States, despite not showing that at the moment.”

“What you’re observing at this moment is an oil quarantine that gives us significant control over the upcoming events,” Rubio stated.
